About Renshi Barham
Hi, this is Renshi Daniel Barham. I began training in 1992 at Bradley University, under Dr. June Pilcher (see the Clemson, South Carolina page.) I was lucky enough to have trained with the late Hanshi 10 Dan Isao Ichikawa a few times while I was young. In 1996, I was fortunate enough to attend a week-long training in Hawaii with our current Hanshi, 10 Dan N. Ichikawa. Hanshi ranked me Shodan (1st degree black belt) in 1996. After I graduated from Bradley in 1997, I began teaching Doshinkan, eventually in the St. Louis area, where I taught high school English. In 1998, I was able to travel to Mexico to train with Hanshi for another special week-long training. I married the most wonderful woman in the world, Anna, also in 1998, and in the first three and a half years of our marriage, we had three sons: Ryan, Connor, and Jack. In 2004, I made my first trip to Austria and Germany for the week of Summer Training, at which time I was able to train a couple of times in the honbu dojo with Hanshi. I am honored that Hanshi awarded me the title Renshi in 2005; with the exception of my wife and sons, it is what I am most proud of. Since 1992, I have trained with Hanshi whenever possible, usually for a few days during each visit Hanshi makes to the United States. Doshinkan is one of the most important, driving forces in my life, and I find it hard to imagine the man I would have become without it in my life.
