About
Karatedo Doshinkan
Karatedo is a form of traditional Budo (martial way of life). It is commonly thought of as a way to defend oneself from attack. It is not a sport. It is a classical system of training focused on better health, longer life, and the full development of our natural potential. Although self defense skills are included in the training, the Karatedo experience offers much more.
We train to:
Improve health and restore flexibility
Strengthen personal discipline
Develop strength and power
Protect ourselves from danger
Improve balance, focus, and overall health
Engage with positive like-minded people
Learning through observation and repetition:
No sparring
No competition
No experience required
OUR INSPIRATION
From Hanshi 10 Dan Masako Fujimoto-Stock
In beginner training we focus on a step-by-step method to learn basic techniques and principles of karatedo. Training starts with an emphasis on injury prevention and safety, simple self-defense techniques, and basic kata that support progress toward improved health, balance, fitness, and well-being.
In intermediate training students work together sharing observations to practice basic and self-defense techniques, as well as the kata they’ve learned in class. More advanced kata and techniques are introduced.
In advanced training students are introduced to our traditional weapons. In Karatedo Doshinkan this includes training with Bo, Kama, Nunchaku, Sai, and Tonfa. More complex empty-hand kata are also introduced. All these aspects of training blend together through repetition. They form the ongoing path for life-long learning in Karatedo Doshinkan.
Karatedo Doshinkan is a worldwide organization led by Hanshi 10 Dan Masako Fujimoto-Stock, one of the foremost authorities of traditional Karatedo. Her honbu dojo (world headquarters) is in Austria.
